TEACH THEM TO OBEY

LESSON FOUR; REDEMPTION GAVE ME ETERNAL LIFE

The sin of Adam brought us under the dominion of the devil, after separating us spiritually from God. Through this sin, we also became the property of the devil and inherited the sinful nature. When Jesus died, he shed his blood to pay the price for our sins and to be purchased back to God. That is redemption. Just as Adam’s sin gave us the sinful nature of Satan, the sacrifice of Christ gave us God’s life or Eternal Life.

What Redemption is
a.       Redemption is the payment of a ransom
b.      Redemption is the payment of a price to buy something back
c.       We are redeemed when we believe and confess Jesus as Lord and Saviour

Redemption demanded two things
a.       The payment of a price for the forgiveness of sin
b.      Breaking of the relationship between man and Satan

What Jesus Christ did in our Redemption - Heb 9:11-12, 1Pet 1:18-19
a.       He paid the price for our redemption, by offering his blood once and for all
b.      He obtained forgiveness of sins for man through his blood
c.       He broke the relationship between man and Satan - Heb 2:14-15
d.      He destroyed spiritual death and removed Satan’s nature from us
e.       He freed man from Satan’s authority
f.       Man received spiritual re-birth and the Eternal life of God is imparted to him

Some Benefits of Eternal Life
a.       Man becomes God’s child because he is born of God – 1John 5:1(a), John 1:12
b.      Man has the ability to live like Christ  1John 2:6
c.       Man is a heir of God and joint-heir with Christ – Rom 8:17
d.      Man has access to the Father as Christ had – Heb 4:16
e.       Man has same freedom from Satanic dominion and power to destroy his works as Christ had – 1John 3:8
f.       Man is set free from diseases – 1Pet 2:24
g.      Man qualifies to receive the Holy Ghost and for God to dwell in him

CONFESSION: I am redeemed; I don’t belong to the devil; I’m God’s property and am not afraid of what man can do to me.

PRAYER: I pray the grace to live as a child of redemption, and not subject to the dictates of the devil and the flesh

LESSON TWO: JESUS CHRIST TOOK MY SINS AWAY

In this lesson, we will understand how our sins were taken away because of the Father’s love for mankind. Even though we were sinners, rebelling against God every day, God still found a way of removing our sins because of His love.

1.      Who is Jesus Christ?
  1. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary
  2. Jesus is God the Son and part of the Three-in-One God (the Trinity)
  3. Jesus Christ is one with God – John 10:30
  4. Jesus Christ is God’s Word – John 1:1
  5. The world and all things on earth were made through Jesus Christ – John 1:3
  6. Jesus Christ is the Only One who satisfied all of God’s conditions for saving mankind from their sins.

2.      God’s love for mankind – Gen 1:27-31, Ps 8:5
God showed his love towards man in many ways:
  1. Man is so important to God that He created Him in His image to commune with Him.
  2. The earth was made as man’s home.
  3. God filled the earth with all man will need.
  4. He also made the universe, with the sun, planets, etc, to serve the earth and to make it more habitable for man.
  5. God gave mankind authority to rule the earth and to enjoy the things of the earth.

3.      God demonstrated the highest form of love to mankind – John 3:16
  1. Because God loves mankind He did not want us to suffer the punishment for our sins
  2. God chose His only Son Jesus Christ to take away our sins
  3. God allowed His beloved Son to die so that we will live
  4. Jesus suffered the punishment for our sins and made us go free without punishment
The Author

4.    We received Eternal Life when Jesus Christ took away our sins – John 3:16
  1. We deserved to die but Jesus died for us.
  2. We were spiritually dead – separated from God, but Jesus brought us to the Father.
  3. God forgave our sins and gave us His nature or Life – Eternal Life.
  4. We now have Eternal Life and we are no more sinners.

CONFESSION:
God loves me; my sins have been taken away and I have eternal life.

PRAYER:
Father, I thank you for loving me and giving your Son to die in my place. Help me to live for you always, as I dedicate all I have to you, in Jesus name.

TEACH THEM TO OBEY

LESSON ONE: I WAS A SINNER

We begin this study programme by looking at the state of man before salvation. The Bible makes it clear that every human is a sinner at birth, and remains a sinner until he believes in Christ and confesses Him as Lord and Saviour. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). No matter how good anyone is or the good things he does, he remains a sinner until he is saved.

1.      What is Sin?
  1. The original-language Bible word for sin means “to miss the mark or target”
  2. Sin means “the breaking or transgression of God’s law”
  3. Sin is “disobedience to God”

2.      What is the origin of Sin?
  1. Satan is the origin or source of sin – He was the first to sin against God. – Isaiah 14:12-15
  2. Sin came into the world through the disobedience of Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil – Rom. 5:19, Gen. 2:15-17
  3. Sin entered the world through Adam – Rom 5:12

3.      Why is man a sinner?
a.       When Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they died spiritually – they were separated from God – Gen. 2:15-17
b.      When they disobeyed God by obeying Satan, they took on the nature of the devil – they became one with Satan.
c.       Everyone who is born on earth is a sinner not because we broke any law; we are sinners by nature because we were sold to the devil through the sin of Adam. – Rom 5:14
d.      Every human is born with the sinful nature – the nature of the devil

The Author
4.      What is the punishment for Sin?
a.       God hates sin and no sin goes unpunished
b.      God’s punishment for sin is death or separation from Him – Rom. 6:23
c.       All sinners are destined to die – suffer eternal separation from God

CONFESSION:
I was once a sinner, but now I am not. I do not have the nature of the devil; I have the nature of God. I was once separated from God, but I am now one with God.

PRAYER:
Lord, my life is in your hands. I ask that I shall not disobey you, but will obey your word always no matter the temptations I face, in Jesus name.
