Those who do not believe in Christ or all who are not faithful to Him will be thrown in Hell.

TEACH THEM TO OBEY - LESSON SEVENTEEN

POWER OVER SIN

When Jesus Christ died, all believers died with him. We also rose with Him in his resurrection into a new life, which is the life of God. Believers have also died to sin and have been given power to resist sin. We are therefore to die to sin daily by putting to death the misdeeds of the body, and to live a new life in obedience to God. (Rom 6:8-18)

What is Sin?
  1. The original-language Bible word for sin means “to miss the mark or target”
  2. Sin means “the breaking or transgression of God’s law”
  3. Sin is “disobedience to God”

Various Descriptions of Sin
  • Moral wickedness, Evil, Godlessness, Guilty, Unrighteous conduct,
  • Iniquity, Lawlessness, Transgression Going astray, Falling away, Pretending

Some bad consequences of Sin for the believer
a.       Sin interrupts our fellowship with God – 1John 1:3, 6-7
b.      Sin makes us lose our joy – John 15:11
c.       Sin causes us to walk in darkness – 1John 1:6; 2:10
d.      Sin makes us lose our confidence before the Father in prayer – 1John 3:19-22
e.       We may suffer some form of punishment, including sickness, if we continue in sin – Heb 12:5-11, 1Cor 11:30, James 5:15
f.       If we persist in sin, we may be disciplined or excommunicated from the local church – Matt 18:17, 1Cor 5.
g.      Persistent sin may lead to physical death in some cases – 1Cor 11:30, 1John 5:16

What helps us to stay away from Sin
a.       God’s word – we should study and keep His word in our hearts – Ps 119:11
b.      The Intercession of Christ - Jesus lives to pray for us; one of the things he prays about is that we might not sin – Heb 7:25, John 17:15
c.       The Indwelling Holy Spirit – He teaches us to walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:16), by discerning good from evil – 1Cor 2:10, Heb 5:14

Repentance and confession
a.       Repentance is turning away from one’s sins
b.      Repentance is not just confessing to stop sinning, but practically moving away from the sin
c.       In true confession, there is repentance and the earnest desire to change

Believers must walk in the light
a.       God’s standard is God’s holiness
b.      God’s requirement for each believer is to walk in the light of His holiness, according to the believer’s stage of spiritual growth or development.
c.       If we make the effort and rely on God’s grace, we can walk in the light and obey God’s commandments – 1John 2:4,6; 3:24, Heb 12:14
d.      The believer should always aim at growing to maturity

TEACH THEM TO OBEY - LESSON SIXTEEN

POWER AND AUTHORITY OVER SATAN

Believers have been given power and authority over the devil, just as Jesus had power over Satan. Satan and his demons were once angels of God. They were created perfect, but sin was found in them and they rebelled against God, and were cast down (Ezek 28:15, Rev 12:7-9, Isaiah 14:12-14).
Satan is now the number one enemy of God. He is also the enemy of all believers and is working very hard to harm us and also stop us from obeying God. But Jesus defeated Satan for us when he died on the cross, and gave us power to overcome him and his demons. (Lk 10:19)

1.      Who is Satan?
a.       He is also called Lucifer or Devil
b.      He is a spirit being and also a person
c.       He was created perfect but he sinned against God
d.      Lucifer was cast out of heaven when he sinned
e.       He is the source of all sin and evil – Ezek 28:15
f.        He is powerful, intelligent and clever
g.      He is wicked and likes to work unnoticed
h.      Satan is God’s enemy and seeks to destroy believers – John 10:10, 1Pet 5:8
i.        Unlike God, Satan is not everywhere; he does not know all things and does not have all power

2.      What are demons or unclean spirits?
a.       They are angels who were cast out of heaven with Lucifer – Rev 12:7-9
b.      They are evil spirits who have no bodies
c.       Demons have intelligence, emotions and will just like persons
d.      Demons or unclean spirits are under Satan and they work for him
e.       Demons work mostly through humans because they have no bodies
f.        Demons are not everywhere; they do not know everything and do not have all power

3.      Jesus Christ gave believers power over Satan and demons
a.       Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of Satan – 1John 3:8
b.      Jesus performed many miracles and cast out devils - Acts 10:38
c.       When Jesus died, he shed his blood to free us from sin and from Satan’s dominion – Heb 2:14
d.      Jesus overcame the Devil and disgraced him through his death on the cross – Col 2:15
e.       Satan is afraid of Jesus Christ because he could not find any sin in Him
f.        Jesus gave believers power and authority over Satan and his demons – Lk 10:19
g.      Satan and his demons are afraid of believers, but they are not afraid of unbelievers
h.      Believers should not be afraid to resist the devil and cast out evil spirits – Mark 16:15-16

CONFESSION: I have the Holy Spirit in me; I have power and authority over the devil to destroy his works and fulfill God’s purpose.

PRAYER: I bind and destroy all the works of the devil against my life right now. No weapon formed against me will prosper, in Jesus name

TEACH THEM TO OBEY - LESSON TWELVE

GOD’S WORD AND FAITH

The Christian walk is a life of faith, based on the word of God. We can live a successful Christian life if we have faith in God’s word. Jesus lived on earth and worked by faith, and He taught us to always trust in God and live by faith. Faith has to be the lifestyle of every believer; and faith is nurtured through God’s word – 2Cor 5:7, Rom 10:17.

What is God’s Word?
a.       Anything that God has spoken directly – eg. God spoke to Abraham (Gen 12:1-3); Moses (Exod 3:4-5)
b.      God spoke through the Prophets – eg. Isaiah, Jeremiah
c.       What the Apostles said in the New Testament – eg. Paul
d.      Anything Jesus said is God’s word because He is God – John 1:1,18)
e.       The written record of what the prophets, apostles and Jesus have spoken; i.e. The Scriptures
f.       The spoken proclamation by some preachers or prophets or other believers in the church today

Why you have to study God’s Word
a.       God’s word is complete, pure and has no errors and can be relied upon – Prov. 30:5-6

c.       God’s word can help us in our time of need and give direction in life – 1Tim 3:16-17, Ps 119:105
d.      Our faith will increase when we study God’s word – Rom 10:17
e.       We can do God’s work better when we study the Word – 2Tim 2:15
f.       We can stay away from sin and lead a holy life if we study God’s word – Ps 119:9-11

What is faith?
a.       Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. - Heb 11:6
b.      We have faith when we believe that something we have not yet seen or experienced exits
c.       We are not walking by faith if we want to see or experience something before we believe it exits

How to live by faith
a.       Study God’s word everyday to grow in faith – 2Tim 2:15
b.      Meditate on the Word or imagine only what God’s word says – Josh 1:8
c.       Confess what God’s word says and not what you see or how you feel – Prov 18:21
d.      Don’t speak negative words or the things you don’t want to happen – Prov 18:21
e.       Show your faith by practicing or doing what God’s word says – James 2:17-18
f.       Don’t complain but always be joyful and thank God for the things you go through in life – 1Thes 5:16-18
CONFESSION: I walk by faith and not by sight; I love God’s word, and I live by it every day.
